Kid Inventor Day

Observed annually on January 17, National Kid Inventor Day marks a celebration of young students who are applying STEAM principles and critical thinking skills to creatively solve real-world problems that they witness in their own lives and communities. The day of celebration coincides with the anniversary of Benjamin Franklin’s birthday. While he may be best known for inventing bifocals and the lightning rod, Franklin was also a kid inventor himself, starting his innovation journey at just eleven years old.

Ohio Invention League celebrates Kid Inventor Day each year at the Ohio Statehouse to demonstrate the power of invention education on Ohio’s K-12 learners. During the OIL Kid Inventor Day celebration, select OIL student inventors – including some of our Ohio Delegation for the upcoming Invention Convention U.S. Nationals competition – showcase their recent inventions to state representatives, OIL sponsors, and other current and potential stakeholders.
