About Ohio Invention League
Ohio Invention League (OIL) is an inclusive, educational, non-profit organization that offers STEAM programming for K-12 students, educators, and out-of-school programs across the state of Ohio. Our program offerings include year-long educational support, educator professional development, student inventor experiences, and Invention Convention – all of which are available at no cost to students, families, educators, schools, districts, and out-of-school programs!
At the Ohio Invention League, we believe that Problem-Solving Is Our Superpower! Since our founding in 1993, we have built a community of dedicated like-minded heroes who support the belief that the better we educate our youth and the more opportunities we provide them to learn and implement STEAM skills the better all of our lives will become.
About Ohio Invention Convention
One of Ohio Invention League’s most popular offerings is the Ohio Invention Convention, a K-12 invention education program and competition. OIL’s Ohio Invention Convention program is the Ohio affiliate of Invention Convention Worldwide and is the pathway to the Invention Convention U.S. Nationals at The Henry Ford in Dearborn, MI.
Ohio Invention Convention introduces students to a world in which they can solve their own problems and gain the confidence and 21st-century skills to invent their future through hands-on, real-world, project-based learning activities and exciting events at school, state, and national levels. Ohio Invention Convention education and programming is easy to implement, flexible enough to meet diverse student needs, adaptable to a broad range of disciplines, and accessible to virtually any learner.
The curriculum provided by OIL to Ohio Invention Convention educators and out-of-school program leaders aligns with Ohio Educational Standards, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), Common Core, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), and STEAM standards.
Our Mission
Ohio Invention League has a mission to inspire curiosity, confidence, and creative problem-solving in our youth and advance invention and entrepreneurial education. We envision a day when every child – regardless of gender, race, religion, or socioeconomic background – has the chance to follow their natural curiosity, invent creative solutions to problems, and be inspired to achieve their highest level of personal accomplishment.
Our Goals:
Ohio Invention League has a vision of a world in which all learners have access to invention, innovation, and entrepreneurial education to gain the confidence and skills to control their own destiny.
In realizing this vision, our goals are to:
Increase the return on investment in STEAM and entrepreneurship by effectively bridging these disciplines with a stronger and more innovative collective outcome.
Instill problem-identification, problem-solving, entrepreneurship, and creativity skills for life to inspire young people to become innovators, inventors, and entrepreneurs over the course of their K-12 careers.
Activate STEAM education through competitions, events, and a flexible, project-based curriculum aligned to education standards.
Showcase Ohio’s innovative young thinkers.
