Ohio Invention League’s 2021 Teacher of Excellence, Zach Keeton of Midview Local Schools, began his involvement with the Ohio Invention League in 2014 when he was one of two teachers in his district to pilot the program. As an advocate for project-based and STEAM learning, he now leads the program for the district. He says,”The skills like problem solving, critical thinking and creativity are always showcased in Invention Convention. The best things about these skills is they are not only used in the classroom, but outside the classroom as well. We are really preparing students for the real world. I’ve seen firsthand how children can grow in confidence. I had a student who wasn’t the best student. He really didn’t enjoy school, but he lit up when the class gave him a standing ovation after he presented his prototype, and to me, that is what it’s all about!”
